Wrocław Świebodzki Station in Poland

A Hidden Secret Attraction in Wrocław

Wrocław Świebodzki Station, a ghost station, stands out as an attraction absent from regular travel guides to Wrocław, Poland. This is truly one of Wrocław’s secret places, appealing to those interested in abandoned railway infrastructure. Visitors can wander among the unused railway tracks and compare the experience to the UK, where rail operators have historically removed disused infrastructure quickly.

The last trains to Wrocław Świebodzki operated in 1991. Since then, although overhead power line gantries still remain, the power lines have been removed. The main railway tracks into this terminus station have also gone. However, on one side of this vast expanse of land, you can still see some abandoned railway tracks.

Will Trains Run Again to Wrocław Świebodzki Station?

Apparently Yes! Source: The Świebodzki market is to be closed. It must make room for trains. Tu Wrocław. In Polish.

Imagine that happening in the UK. There are some examples of trains returning to abandoned railway stations in the UK. Source: List of Beeching cuts service reopenings. Wikipedia. Within the vast array of UK stations and railways that have been permanently closed, the list found at the above web link represents a tiny fraction of the stations and railway routes that have been lost forever.

To give some context, the Świebodzki market mentioned earlier is a large flea market held every Sunday. When I made another visit to Wrocław Świebodzki Station on a Sunday, however, the flea market aspect held little interest for me, and I did not take any photographs.

On my first visit, which was on a very hot, sunny day in June 2025, I was able to wander without hindrance under the remaining platform canopy and the remaining railway tracks. This visit offered a different and exciting perspective from the Sunday flea market experience.
