The Bluebell Railway – A Magical and Memorable Visit
On Friday, 18 July 2025, my wife and I visited the Bluebell Railway in East Sussex. The day was hot at 28°C, although at times clouds hid the sun, as some photos show. We started our adventure at Sheffield Park Station.
Upon arrival, we discovered that the Bluebell Railway was running a single train schedule (Schedule A) that day, offering two departures to East Grinstead and two returns. We decided on the 11 a.m. departure from Sheffield Park, with Class 4MT 80151 as our locomotive. Although Horsted Keynes and Kingscote stations were closed for Southern at War event preparations over the coming weekend, we still found plenty to enjoy. We appreciated the train rides, spent time at the Bluebell Museum, and visited the gift shop and Steam Works exhibits within the locomotive shed at Sheffield Park.
Surprise Arrival of a Class 202 201001 DEMU
After our main ride, our visit took an unexpected turn: a striking Class 202, gleaming in its vintage livery, arrived with a string of carriages. Though not in service, the train was a nostalgic sight at Sheffield Park Station. Knowing the Bluebell Railway does not own this locomotive, I presume it was on loan from another heritage railway. The train paused for about ten minutes, providing a perfect window for photographs.

Definitely a Great Day Out
Reflecting on all these experiences, we relished every moment at the Bluebell Railway. The heritage line exudes magic and nostalgia, making it a destination I wholeheartedly recommend for both railway enthusiasts and anyone seeking a memorable excursion. Whether you are a railway enthusiast or simply seeking a memorable day out, the Bluebell Railway offers a truly enchanting journey you won’t forget.
Parking at Sheffield Park Station
For visitors planning a trip, it’s also helpful to know there is free parking at Sheffield Park Station. During our visit, the car park was nearly empty, with just a handful of vehicles. I can’t say whether parking is plentiful or scarce on busier days.
