Refugee Week in Worthing 2026 at Colonnade House
The Art of Courage
Updated 19 June 2026. Tomorrow, Saturday 20 June is the last day of the exhibition. The exhibition at Colonnade House will be open from 10:00 to 17:00.
I had the pleasure of visiting Colonnade House on Tuesday to view the Refugee Week in Worthing exhibition, and it was a thoroughly enjoyable experience. The vibrant colours and textures of the artwork immediately caught my eye, and the sense of hope in the room is real. It was a joy to photograph these exceptional pieces, a few of which I have shared below.
Every year, Refugee Week provides an important opportunity to reflect on the experiences of displaced people worldwide and celebrate their fortitude. This year, the focus turns to a powerful and universal theme: Courage.
To mark the occasion here in West Sussex, local charity Worthing 4 Refugees is hosting a week-long exhibition at Colonnade House titled “The Art of Courage.” Running from Tuesday, 16 June to Saturday, 20 June 2026, more than just an exhibit, this space is a neighbourhood gathering place where different cultures and stories connect.
A Shared Creative Space
What makes “The Art of Courage” particularly moving is its joint nature. The exhibition brings together an eclectic collection of art and craft, featuring:
- Original work created by refugees and displaced persons now living within our communities.
- Pieces contributed by local Worthing artists, created in a spirit of welcome and solidarity.
Rather than just a static display, the gallery serves as a space to honour resilience, share highly personal stories, and build confidence among various cultures. For visitors, it gives a window into the real experiences of those who have had to leave everything behind, expressed through paint, textiles, and a variety of craft media.
About the Organisers
The exhibition is curated by Worthing 4 Refugees, a dedicated local organisation working to establish a culture of safety, integration, and justice across the town. Powered by volunteers and working in close partnership with local groups, the charity provides vital practical services to help refugees and asylum seekers find their feet, connect with neighbours, and begin the next chapter of their lives in safety.
Visiting the Exhibition
If you are in Worthing town centre this week, “The Art of Courage” is well worth a visit. It is an excellent way to show support for the local refugee community, learn more about the unification work happening right on our doorstep, and perhaps even purchase a unique piece of original artwork to take home.
