Songs for Ukraine Chorus have announced the date of their first concert of the 2025 season. Tickets are on sale now.

Songs for Ukraine concert at Southwark Cathedral. Ukraine stands!

The above video is of a mournful song dating back at least one hundred. After the revolution of dignity in 2013-2014 it has been a requiem for those who died on Maidan in 2014 (The Heavenly hundred), as well as others in the ruzzian-Ukrainian war. Source: Yaroslava Matvieienko .

This unique event will commemorate the third anniversary of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine and is to feature works by both classical and contemporary Ukrainian composers.

Part of the ticket sales proceeds go to the charity Hospitallers Ukraine Aid. Their selfless mission is saving lives on the frontlines. Funds raised by Songs for Ukraine will support their work and provide emergency care where needed most, which is to help evacuate wounded soldiers to safety.

The outstanding Ukrainian pianist Sasha Grynyuk from Kyiv will support Songs For Ukraine. Sasha attended the National Music Academy of Ukraine before continuing his studies at the renowned Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London. Sasha is a rising star featured in the BBC Music Magazine and has played with major orchestras at venues including Carnegie Hall, Wigmore Hall and Wiener Konzerthaus.

The program features special guests – performers of the new generation of Ukrainian culture and rising stars in the world of talent: Yulia Sozanska and Khrystyna Mykhailichenko.

The programme will also feature readings – poems written by Victoria Amelina and Maksym Kryvyvtsov, both killed by Russia. Actress Kristin Milward will do the reading.

One of my Ukrainian friends, who sings with the choir, represents the town of Worthing on England’s South Coast. I went to the Songs for Ukraine Chorus Christmas concert on 11 December 2024 at St Paul’s Church in Covent Garden, and it was terrific!
