What is Substack – An Explanation
In simple terms, Substack is a home for independent writing. It is a cross between a personal blog and a publication that gets delivered directly to your email inbox. Instead of having to check my website for updates or hoping an algorithm shows my posts in Google search or on social media, Substack ensures my latest work comes straight to you.
How It Works For You
- No Algorithms: You see what I write, in the order I write it. No search engines are choosing what you see.
- Inbox Delivery: Every new post is emailed to you, so you never miss an update.
- The Archive: You can always visit my Substack homepage to read everything I’ve ever posted in a clean, ad-free “blog” format.
- Community: You can comment on posts, and “Notes” (Substack’s version of a social feed like X and Facebook), and interact with me and other readers directly.
Why I Use It
I use Substack because it allows me to build a direct relationship with you. It’s a quiet space on the internet away from the noise of ads and sponsored content. It allows me to focus on quality writing for the people who actually want to read it.
Are there Substack apps for IOS and Android?
Yes, there are. You can download the Substack App if you prefer reading on your phone without cluttering your email inbox. Links to the IOS and Android apps are at the end of this post.
Do I have to pay?
ALL of my content is completely free! You can simply enter your email address to stay updated.
Why do I have a website and a Substack Publication?
This website is my “permanent home,” while Substack is where the “conversation and latest updates” happen.
Sign up to my Substack publication. It’s free.
